Bear no burden on the Sabbath

The Sabbath day was kept negligently.

Jeremiah 17:21-22 So says Yahuah, take heed for the sake of your lives, and do not carry a burden on the Sabbath day, nor bring it in by the gates of Jerusalem. And do not carry a burden from your houses on the Sabbath day, nor do any work, but keep the Sabbath day holy, as I commanded your fathers.

Some were carrying a load coming through the gates to trade and work, which would be violating the Sabbath command. Most worked 6 days in the field, with some using the Sabbath day to gather in their fruit from the countryside.

Jeremiah 17:23 “But they did not obey, or incline their ear, and they made their neck stiff not to hear and not to receive instruction.

Sabbath breaking was one of the main violations why Yahuah allowed Israel to go into captivity. Read also Ezekiel 20:13, 20:16, 20:21, 20:24.

If they kept the Sabbath set-apart (holy) they would have the following blessing.

Jeremiah 17:24-25 “And it shall be, if you diligently obey Me,” declares Yahuah, “to bring in no burden through the gates of this city on the Sabbath day, and set apart the Sabbath day, to do no work in it, then sovereigns and heads sitting on the throne of David shall enter in through the gates of this city, riding in chariots and on horses, they and their heads – the men of Yehudah (Judah) and the inhabitants of Jerusalem. And this city shall be inhabited forever.

But if they do not keep the Sabbath set-apart then they will receive the following curse.

Jeremiah 17:27 But if you will not listen to Me to keep the Sabbath day holy, and to not carry a burden and enter at the gates of Jerusalem on the Sabbath day, then I will kindle a fire in her gates. And it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem; yea, it shall not be put out.

1 Kings 9:6-7 “If you at all turn back, you or your sons, from following Me, and do not guard My commands, My laws, which I have set before you, but shall go and serve other mighty ones and bow yourselves to them, then I shall cut off Yisra’el from the face of the soil which I have given them, and send away from My presence this house which I have set apart for My Name. And Yisra’el shall be a proverb and a mockery among all the peoples.

Are we hearing the words of Yahuah?
