The heart is deceitful

Are all hearts deceitful? Who can know it?

Jeremiah 17:9 “The heart is deceitful above all, and desperately sick – who shall know it?

Jeremiah 7:24 “But they did not obey or incline their ear, but walked in the counsels, in the stubbornness of their evil heart, and went backward and not forward.

Jeremiah 16:12 ‘And you have done more evil than your fathers, for look, each one walks according to the stubbornness of his own evil heart, without listening to Me.

Jeremiah 18:12 But they shall say, “It is no use! For we walk according to our own plans, and we do each one the stubbornness of his evil heart.”

Mark 7:21-22 “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil reasonings, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, greedy desires, iniquities, deceit, indecency, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness.

Does it mean we are born with evil hearts? No of course not because it says “who shall know it?” We have a choice to have an evil heart or to have a good heart, it is a choice we make. There are those who are evil and no matter what they do their life is in evilness.

In the next 3 verses Yahuah looks at our hearts and rewards us according to what He finds in our heart.

Jeremiah 17:10 I, Yahuah, search the heart, I try the reins, even to give to each man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

2 Chronicles 6:30 then hear from the heavens Your dwelling place, and forgive, and give to everyone according to all his ways, whose heart You know – for You alone know the hearts of the sons of men.

Revelation 2:23 “And I shall slay her children with death. And all the assemblies shall know that I am the One searching the kidneys and hearts. And I shall give to each one of you according to your works.

The below verse is an example of what happens to someone that becomes rich through wrong doings (having a deceitful heart).

Jeremiah 17;11 “As a partridge that broods but does not hatch, so is he who gets riches, but not by right. It leaves him in the midst of his days, and at his end he is a fool.”

Those who walk truly in Yahuah’s ways shall not have a deceitful or evil heart.
