His desires

John brings up three important points that Yahuah desires.

Point 1 - 1 John 5:14-15

And this is the boldness (confidence) that we have in Him, that if we ask whatever according to His desire (will), He hears us. And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him.

Important to understand that what we ask of Yahuah will be according to His will, not ours. He hears us if we ask in accordance to His will, then we can ask Him anything because we know He is hearing our request and we know we are doing His will.

Do we understand what His will (desires) are according to scripture?

Point 2 – 1 John 5:16-20

If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin, not unto death, he shall ask, and He shall give him life for those not sinning unto death. There is a sin unto death. I do not say that he should pray about that. All unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not unto death. We know that everyone having been born of Elohim does not sin, but the one having been born of Elohim guards himself, and the wicked one does not touch him. We know that we are of Elohim, and all the world lies in the wicked one. And we know that the Son of Elohim has come and has given us an understanding, so that we might know the true One. And we are in the true One, in His Son Yahusha Messiah. This is the true Elohim and everlasting life.

Unrighteousness, lawlessness and sin are used synonymously.

The sin unto death is willful (Intentional) sin without repentance. It is blasphemy to pray for such an attitude and Yahuah will not hear it. There is sin that is willful, other words the sin is done purposely (planned) and then there is sin done by mistake, done in the heat of the moment without realizing sin was done (unplanned). Read Numbers 15:24-30 regarding sin by mistake and intentional. Hebrews 6:4-6 and Hebrews 10:26-32 also speaks of intentional sin.

John is saying that we should pray for our fellow believers who we see sinning without them knowing they are sinning (sinning by mistake).

John says in 1 John 3:6-9 that anyone who has accepted Elohim does not sin and if anyone keeps on sinning, that person does not know Yahuah. The wicked one keeps sinning which is of the devil.

The righteous one guards himself from sinning because they are truly in Elohim (see also 1 John 4:4).

Yahusha the Messiah has given us knowledge of the truth, therefore those who know the son shall stay in truth and not sin.

Point 3 – 1 John 5:21

Little children, keep yourselves from idols.

Paul also says in 1 Corinthians 10:14 Therefore, my beloved ones, flee from idolatry.

John reminds the believers to stay away from idolatry.

Remember the second command – Exodus 20:4-6.
